Bioengineering Basics

course description

Over two days you will practice the art and science of using live plant materials, such as willows, cottonwoods, and poplars, to kickstart natural succession. You will get practical experience in harvesting techniques and timing, as well as storing and transporting live bioengineering plant materials. Other skills you will leave with include tried-and-true techniques to build wattles, fascines, brush layers, and pole drains (and if you don't know what these terms mean, you will at the end of this workshop!). With this training, you will be ready to use natural engineering methods to restore disturbed sites and habitats, control erosion, and stabilize slopes using only locally sourced plants and materials.

duration

2-day outdoor workshop.
